What do Justin Timberlake, Halle Berry, and Catherine Zeta-Jones all have in common? No, they are not clients of the Yau Law Firm, but if you guessed that they each have some form of a “Love Contract” with their significant others, you would be right! You might be asking yourself “what the heck is a love contract. . . ” and you would not be the only one asking. This newer trend is picking up speed in celebrity circles as the rich and famous are putting their relationship requirements and boundaries on paper in contract form.

Some contracts stipulate penalties for cheating spouses while other clauses require spouses to spend a minimum amount of quality time together during the week. Some even go as far as establishing maximum body weights and frequency of sex. But, the question remains, are these contracts enforceable? Some courts have upheld the contract and have ruled upwards of $20 Million dollars. Other courts have not been as open to the idea. Either way, the premise behind this concept is the same: get all of your concerns out in the open and discuss them with your partner.

Outlining all of your concerns and expectations has always been a goal in contract law so that each party knows what is expected of them. Why should relationships be any different? Guys, wouldn’t your life be easier if you knew what your woman wanted from you? Ladies, wouldn’t you feel better knowing that all of your concerns and expectations are clearly laid out (and punishable if not followed)?
